United Way 'Born Learning' Trail Coming to Muskego

Signage will present interactive learning activities for kids and their families.

Parks Director Craig Anderson explained that United Way is interested in placing 10 signs along a trail here in Muskego at the Parks and Recreation board meeting Monday night. The signage presents interactive learning opportunities for kids and their families to participate in while they’re walking along the trail, and is part of the United Way's 'Born Learning' program. Of the 10 signs, nine will actually present activities, while one will be an introductory sign at the start of the trail explaining the concept.

Though the signage alone can cost anywhere between $1,250-1,450, Anderson told the Board that United Way is working with a number of sponsors who are donating the funds. United Way also has a volunteer workforce to install the signage, he said.

With unanimous approval by the Board, Anderson will go ahead and put together a map for where the signage should be placed, which will most likely be along a trail between Lions and Veterans Memorial parks.

Asphalt or concrete is needed in order to take advantage of a stencil kit that can provide activities and games, like hopscotch, Anderson said.

United Way’s goal is to get nine trails up and running with its signage across Waukesha County.
