Drexel Town Square Rezoning This Week

Plan Commission vote on the rezoning tops a busy week ahead in Oak Creek.

Plans for the proposed Drexel Town Square could take another step forward Tuesday as city officials take up the rezoning of the property. That's just one of the highlights of the week ahead in Oak Creek.

Monday

Pool work on tap: So, what's it going to cost to make repairs at the Oak Creek High School pool? The Oak Creek-Franklin School should find out at its meeting at 5:45 p.m. at the administration building, 7630 S. 10th St. The board will hear about the options and costs of dealing with some pipe problems at the pool. In addition, members will take up the issues of benefits and pay for its support staff.

Tuesday

Town Square rezoning: The Oak Creek Plan Commission meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall and is expected to take up the rezoning needed to pave the way for the Drexel Town Square project. The city has proposed creating a special zoning district for the property called the Drexel Town Square Mixed Use Planned Development district, and the commission could vote whether to put that zoning into place, despite the threat of legal action over the rezoning.

'Nothing up my sleeves!':
Ice cream and magic? How can you go wrong with that? As part of its ice cream social program, the Oak Creek Public Library is hosting Ardan James, the "Animated Illusionist," in this unique variety act including comedy, magic, music and dance aimed at kids ages 5 to 10.  The free show starts at 1:30 p.m. and registration is not required. For details, check out Patch's events calendar.

Wednesday

PJ party at library: And there will be even more ice cream at the library at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, when children’s author Jamie A. Swenson will be on hand for a silly, noisy celebration of her debut picture book "BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!" The event is geared for children ages 3 to 8, who are being encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. The ice cream social, which starts at 10:30 a.m., is free and no registration is required. Here are more details from our calendar.

Boppin' to the oldies: Take a step back in time and listen to the tunes of the Doo-Wop Daddies in the latest installment of the Oak Creek Community Center's Summer Concert series. The outdoor concert of '50s and '60s music runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center, and if you're one of the first 250 people there, you get a free orange cream float. Here's everything you need to know about this event.
