When police arrived in the area, the criminal complaint states that the driver of the SUV began to flee before any traffic stop was attempted. The driver of the SUV, identified as 18-year-old Yasmin D. Gonzalez of Milwaukee, fled at 75 miles per hour north on Shepard Ave.

Reports indicated that Gonzalez lost control of the SUV, left the roadway and became airborne after hitting the side of the driveway. The vehicle came to rest briefly in a front yard, only to continue on while on fire and with a flat left front tire. The vehicle finally came to rest in a ditch after striking a mailbox, police said. The full distance of the pursuit was 1.4 miles, police said.
