Kmart Closing, 75 To Lose Jobs: Report
A total of 75 employees are expected to be let go beginning at about Jan. 31, 2019, according to state officials.

CUDAHY, WI -- Sears Holdings last week announced yet another round of store closings, and this time, a local Kmart store is on the chopping block.
National retailer Kmart has announced that its closing its store in Cudahy, 6077 S. Packard Ave. A total of 75 employees are expected to be let go beginning on or about Jan. 31, 2019 according to a mass-layoff notice submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The once-iconic retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October but its struggles started long ago.
According to USA Today, the latest round of closings include 29 Sears and 11 Kmarts. The paper reports that the stores will close in February.

When Sears filed for bankruptcy back in October, the retailer announced a list of 142 locations that would be closing by the end of the year.
"As we look toward the holiday season, Sears and Kmart stores remain open for business and our dedicated associates look forward to serving our members and customers," CEO Edward S. Lampert said.
Sears, which last year sold off its famous Craftsman brand, has about 700 remaining stores and 68,000 employees —down from the 1,000 stores and 89,000 workers it had in early 2018, according to CNN.
