Patch Picks: Top Picnic Spots
Here are some of the best places for a picnic in the area.
Rain may be on the horizon for this weekend, but it can't rain all the time. So, dust off your picnic baskets, pick up some delicious food and plan a visit to one of these great spots.
1.
This is one of Milwaukee County's newer parks. Located along the shore, it features a beautiful overlook of Lake Michigan as well as picnic tables, benches and a boat dock. Parking is free and restrooms are nearby. Bender Park is located at 4300 E. Ryan Road in Oak Creek.

Lower Legion Park is just west of East Middle School and next to the American Legion Post. The park plays host to city celebrations, such as the Fourth of July and Labor Day events, but it's also a perfect spot for a picnic lunch on a sunny day, with grills, picnic tables and pavilions.

This local park may be relatively small, but it's not lacking in charm. The site features a quaint pond where you can fish or watch the ducks, as well as a pathway that winds through the park. The park is also home to plenty of benches, picnic pavillions and even a wooded picnic area. Henry Miller Park is sandwiched between the high-school and Edgewood Elementary at 315 E. Groveland Drive.

Named after the city's first mayor, Abendschein Park features plenty of open area with room to set up shop or roam around. The park also has athletic fields, a disc-golf course, skate park and playgrounds. Abendschein is at 1321 E. Drexel Ave.
5. Grant Park
Just a bit outside Oak Creek, Grant Park in South Milwaukee is a vast, beautiful park with a little something for everyone. Here, you'll find playgrounds, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, boat landings, the beach and, of course, picnic tables. There are also pavillions available to rent for those with larger parties. Grant Park is at 100 E. Hawthorne Ave.
