OAK CREEK, WI — Four peregrine falcon chicks hatched recently at the We Energies Oak Creek power plant.

Falcon parents Michael and Essity laid their first eggs there in late March, kicking off the 2022 nesting season across the utility company's plants.

Since then, four peregrine chicks have also hatched at the We Energies Port Washington power plant. Two more eggs are expected to hatch soon at Milwaukee's Valley Power Plant and another four are expected at the Weston Power Plant in Rothschild, according to We Energies.

As the falcon eggs hatch, We Energies is asking for the public to vote for what the falcons will be named. The company's peregrine conservation program started in 1992, when 12 falcons that were born in captivity were released from a power plant in Pleasant Prarie, so the naming contest is in honor of the program's 30th anniversary, according to a We Energies spokesperson. Voting ends on May 10.
