Lakeshore Lacrosse Wins Two More & Takes First Loss
Lakeshore Ripsharks 4-1 to start the high school lacrosse season

The Lakeshore Ripsharks lacrosse team is in the middle of a physically exhausting eight games in 15 days stretch to start the season. After winning the first four of five games in nine days, the second game on Saturday was the first to show physical and mental wear and tear and it helped lead to the first loss of the season.
On Thursday, April 18, the heavily favored Ripsharks played St. John’s Military Academy at Shorewood High School. After jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter, the Ripsharks started emptying the bench. After St. John’s crept back to make it a 4-3 game, the Ripsharks put the big guns back in to rebuild the lead and coast to a 17-3 win.
Lakeshore had goals from 10 different players, led by Port Washington senior Dakota Kwasny’s 3 goals and 3 assists. Homestead junior Jack Wegman added a hat trick of his own. Nicolet junior John Jaekels, Homestead junior David Brookman and Shorewood sophomore Riley Sellinger tallied two goals
each. Homestead juniors Jake Hansen, Quinten Ziegler and Max Woody, Whitefish Bay junior Michael Kim and Whitefish Bay senior Patchen Tews each had a goal. Jaekels and Homestead senior Evan Heimerl each had two assists.

At the faceoff X, Ziegler won 12 of 12 and Brookman was 5 for 5.
On Saturday, April 20, the Ripsharks headed north to sunny but cool and windy Green Bay for a double-header with Bayport and Notre Dame Academy.

Lakeshore quickly fell behind 1-0 to Bayport but regrouped and won a hard fought, low scoring 5-2 game. For the fourth straight game, Kwasny led all scorers, with three goals. Sellinger had a goal and an assist and Nicolet senior Dan Wheeler added a goal.
In the second game of the day and the fifth in nine days, the Ripsharks ran into physical and mental drain and a stiff, collapsing zone defense that they were not prepared to handle. Notre Dame refused to allow the ball into the middle of the offensive zone and when it got there, two or more defenders were checking the man with the ball, leading to numerous turnovers and tentative play with the ball.
Compared to Lakeshore’s sloppy game with poor fundamentals, Notre Dame played a solid game but was held in check by a strong, physical Ripshark defense. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough as Max Woody was the only Ripshark to find the back of the net in a 4-1 loss.
The modern game of lacrosse is based on traditional Native American games and generally combines the running and transition game of soccer, the offensive and defensive schemes of basketball and the physical play of hockey.
The Lakeshore lacrosse team is a co-op comprised of players from Port Washington, Cedarburg, Homestead, Whitefish Bay, Shorewood and Nicolet high schools. The Ripsharks play their home games at Shorewood High School.
