📰 News we're reading

• Wisconsin lawmaker believes data center TIF exceptions won't continue (gazettextra.com) — A state lawmaker says future Wisconsin data centers likely won't get special permission to enter tax increment districts, but Port Washington's approved project is already set to more than double the city's tax base. He warns that using TIF this way can raise residents' property taxes in the short term, even though the community only sees the full benefit once the district eventually closes.

• Ozaukee County first responders recieve $175K from data center, Mel's Charities combined donation (tmj4.com) — Port Washington-area first responders are getting a record $175,000 boost, funded by the Lighthouse data center developers and Mel's Charities to buy long-needed safety gear like parade barriers and thermal imaging cameras. While local fire and police leaders welcome the help, some residents remain wary of the controversial data center project and see the donations as part of a broader public-relations push.

• West De Pere backs up No. 1 ranking as Week 8 delivers upsets, unbeaten showdowns across Wisconsin (cbs58.com) — Port Washington football fans just watched the Pirates stay perfect, outlasting Plymouth 42‑34 at home to move to 8‑0 and keep their Division 3 title hopes strong. In a wild Week 8 statewide, several other ranked teams stumbled, but Port Washington, Pewaukee, Hamilton and other unbeaten programs rolled into the regular‑season finale still chasing flawless records and prime playoff seeding.
