1. Port Washington Fire Department officially relocates to new building (cbs58.com) — Port Washington's fire department has officially moved into its new $32.5 million station on W. Grand Avenue, replacing the cramped 1960s firehouse on W. Washington Street. The new building sits next to the police station, allowing the two departments to share space and resources. Residents can tour the facility during a joint open house on October 11. 
2. Work on 51-unit apartment building begins (ozaukeepress.com) — Construction is underway on Pier Street Landing, a 51-unit apartment building with two retail spaces and underground parking in downtown Port Washington. Developer Haley Dobre aims to bring more year-round residents to support local shops and restaurants, with average rents around $2,200 and potential tenants like a fitness provider and cafe. The TIF-supported project is targeting fall 2027 occupancy.
3. Army of Normal Folks Ozaukee provides opportunities to volunteer in community (gmtoday.com) — Port Washington residents John Norman and Michael Mann are leading Army of Normal Folks Ozaukee, connecting locals with hands-on volunteer projects, grants, and blood drives right in town. From helping at the Disabled Vets Fish Outing and Portal's Fish Days events to hosting blood drives at Inventors Brewpub, the club offers flexible ways for families and individuals to get involved.
4. We Energies signs 20-year Point Beach nuclear power deal (wisconsinwatch.org) — We Energies has struck a new 20-year deal to buy most of Point Beach nuclear plant's power, aiming to ease future fuel costs for customers if regulators approve it. The agreement comes as a draft state report predicts a 40% jump in Wisconsin's peak electricity demand within five years, driven largely by new data centers in Port Washington, Mount Pleasant, and Beaver Dam. How those big tech users tap nuclear could influence local power prices.
5. Energy expert says municipalities need better processes to win data center approval (gazettextra.com) — A Milwaukee environmental attorney told a Beloit audience that communities need more transparent, incentive-light processes when considering massive data centers, noting three hyperscale projects already underway in Wisconsin, including one in Port Washington. He argued that secrecy and heavy subsidies erode public trust, even as AI-driven power demand surges and many residents grow wary of data centers. His advice stresses open talks, minimal TIF, and strong community investments.
