Military Engineers Agree: Port's Crumbling Breakwater Needs Rebuilding
Local officials believe this is an important step for rebuilding the structure, long-recognized as a pressing matter for Port Washington, the Ozaukee Press reported.

Port Washington's crumbling north breakwater, which sports the iconic lighthouse, is at risk of being washed away by a big storm.
And now that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has acknowledged that fact, officials believe this could be an important step in getting it repaired, the Ozaukee Press reported.
In its 181-page report to city aldermen earlier this week, the Army Corps noted the urgency of the repairs, recommending that "a major rehabilitation be performed along the entire reach as soon as funds become available."
The Army Corps of Engineers is a federal military agency under the Department of Defense. It is responsible for the maintenance of the breakwater.
Following an Army Corps inspection earlier this summer, U.S. Rep. Tom Petri vowed his support during the repair process, in which both Congress and the city will play a role.
