1. New entrance, ramp welcome students back to St. Catherine's (civicmedia.us) ā St. Catherineās High School in Racine has opened a new secure main entrance, accessible ramp, and administrative suite, giving students and visitors a safer, easier way into the historic building. The $1.3 million project, largely funded by Racine Dominican Sisters and private donors, is the first phase of planned upgrades that will also renovate the weight room and girls locker room before the 2027-28 school year.

2. Racine County deputy charged in accidental youth turkey hunt shooting (jsonline.com) ā A Racine County Sheriffās deputy has been charged with four felonies after his 3-year-old daughter allegedly pulled a shotgun trigger during a youth turkey hunt, injuring a man and his 7-year-old son. The victims suffered serious pellet wounds, the child requiring surgery, and the deputy remains on administrative leave while both criminal and internal investigations move forward.

3. $7M highway and roundabout project starting in Caledonia (dailyreporter.com) ā Drivers in Racine County should prepare for a multi-year overhaul of Highway 38 through Caledonia, including repaving and new roundabouts at 4 Mile and 5 Mile roads starting in 2027. Work begins after Labor Day with closures to through traffic, while local access is maintained, and residents can learn more at a public meeting at Caledonia Village Hall.

4. Goats and sheep replace heavy mowers at Racine landfill (wgntv.com) ā Racineās capped landfill is now being maintained by more than 250 goats and sheep instead of heavy mowing equipment, protecting the siteās engineered cap while trimming grass and weeds. The experiment, run with Highland Holler and Republic Services, has already managed one side of the landfill and helped the area earn National Wildlife Federation habitat certification.
