Groundbreaking ceremony held for Habitat Home (newmedia-wi.com) — A new Habitat for Humanity home is underway on Jesse Court in Shawano, giving partner family Nicole Waupochick and her children a path to affordable homeownership. Wolf River Habitat, which serves Shawano and Menominee counties, is funding the build through donations and sales from the Shawano ReStore on East Elizabeth Street.

3. Bonduel Police Department unveils squad car designed by local students (wearegreenbay.com) — Bonduel’s police just rolled out a new squad car whose eye-catching look was finished by Shawano-based DotCom Branding, using artwork created by local students. The design blends four students’ concepts into one car, and the kids were invited to see how their ideas were turned into a professional, on-the-road design.

Very High Fire Danger Prompts Burn Ban Across Northeast Wisconsin (tchdailynews.com) — Shawano County is under a very high fire danger rating, and state officials are urging residents to avoid all outdoor burning until conditions improve. With hundreds of wildfires already this year, the DNR has suspended burn permits across much of northeast Wisconsin and warns even small sparks from equipment could quickly spread.

Group sues over lack of federal protections for rare mussel found in Wisconsin (wpr.org) — Shawano County rivers are among the Wisconsin waterways where a rare salamander mussel is struggling, and a national conservation group is now suing federal regulators to force stronger protections. The case centers on long-delayed habitat rules that could affect how development, dredging, and shoreline work are reviewed along key rivers statewide, including those flowing through counties near Shawano.
