Arbor Day Foundation Names Sheboygan 'Tree City USA' for 2025 (whbl.com) — Sheboygan has been named a 2025 Tree City USA, extending its record streak to 48 years as Wisconsin’s longest-running Tree City. City staff and the Arbor Day Foundation highlight decades of work planting and caring for trees, and residents are invited to a community tree planting at Lincoln Erdman Elementary School this Saturday, May 9, at 8 a.m.

Zakary 'Zak' Ryan Plautz (merrillfotonews.com) — Family and friends with roots in Sheboygan are mourning the passing of Zakary “Zak” Ryan Plautz, a Sheboygan-born valedictorian of Sheboygan South High School who went on to study and research in New York and Wisconsin. The obituary honors his compassion, academic achievements, cancer survival, and lifelong commitment to helping others, and invites memorial contributions to several charities.

4. Sheboygan Symphony Marks America's 250th with Works by Bernstein, Gershwin, Still (symphony.org) — Sheboygan music lovers can look forward to a May 16 concert at the Stefanie H. Weill Center, where the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will celebrate America’s 250th with Bernstein, Gershwin, and Still. Featuring pianist Llwellyn Sánchez-Werner and largely local musicians, the program promises an entertaining, emotionally moving, and joyful evening rooted in Sheboygan’s long orchestral tradition.

SASD staff members selected for Excellence in Education Award (sheboygansun.com) — Three Sheboygan Area School District staff members have been named Excellence in Education Award winners, rising from nearly 600 nominations across 20 districts. Eleven SASD staff were finalists, and winners will be honored May 16 at the Kohler Performing Arts Center, with the ceremony also streamed online for families and community members.
