New Building Means Positive Things For Shorewood

Signs lined the streets of North Bartlett Avenue and East Kenmore place, outlining North Shore Presbyterian Church’s urban location Tuesday morning. “Absolutely No Construction Vehicle Parking Allowed At Any Time,” the signs threatened, warning violators of the $500 fine which may await them. 

Since its launch in March of 2012, the Church and Learning Center has neighbored the construction of a Mandel Group project: the Lighthorse 4041, a six-story apartment and retail development. 

“I appreciate what it will do for Shorewood,” said Amanda Singh, who frequents North Shore Presbyterian. “Construction is good to see, it is a sign of a good economy.” 

Local moms, Singh and Sara Abbass, have taken their children to Connie’s Sunshine Learning Center for the last two and a half years. The neighboring Mandel Group structure has been under construction for a little under half that time and despite the neighboring noise of construction and the constant flow of workers to and from the site, Singh and Abbass both find promise in this project and others around Shorewood. 

“They have done so much in the last three years,” added Abbass. Her only complaint: “Parking is just more difficult, especially with the snow.” 

The site is set to be finished in summer of 2013.
