Have you ever enjoyed a taste of crispy Matzah? This year, dozens of local children will participate in a hands-on Matzah-baking experience on Sunday, March 22, at Whole Foods Market.
This unique event brings children together for a hands on, exciting educational journey exploring the history and significance of Passover and Matzah. The children will re-enact the process of manufacturing Matzah, from grinding the flour to kneading the dough, to baking the Matzahs on a stone oven, all within 18 minutes, the time limit in which Matzah must be made. The eating of the Matzah is one of the most fundamental observances of this holiday. The Matzah commemorates the haste in which the Israelites left Egypt, not allowing enough time for their dough to rise resulting in the unleavened Matzah.
“The Matza Bakery provides children with a very fun activity, and also a hands-on empowering experience as children watch their creation turn from dough into something they can actually eat!” said Mrs. Mushka Lein, Program Coordinator at Chabad of the East Side. “Today, more than ever, parents appreciate opportunities like this to turn everyday activities into something in which children can take an active role.”
