Papa John's closes Division Street location in Stevens Point (stevenspointjournal.com) — Papa John’s has permanently closed its Division Street location in Stevens Point as of May 24, ending the chain’s presence in the city again. Customers are being directed to the newer Wisconsin Rapids store, while the article recaps the pizza chain’s on-and-off history at two Division Street addresses over the past few decades.

2. Stevens Point visitors center hosts free Movie in the Park June 9 (stevenspointjournal.com) — Families can enjoy a free outdoor showing of “Zootopia 2” on June 9 at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, as the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau marks its 40th anniversary. Food trucks start serving at 5 p.m., the movie begins around 6:15 p.m., and residents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to relax along the Wisconsin River.

3. UW-Stevens Point wind ensemble records professional album (spmetrowire.com) — UW-Stevens Point’s top Symphonic Wind Ensemble recently spent three intensive days recording a professional six-piece album, “Endless Horizons,” right here in Stevens Point. Led by director John Lynch with faculty soloist Brent Turney and industry engineers, the project gave student musicians hands-on experience with professional recording and will be released on streaming platforms later this year.

4. Friendly competition, community support highlight second year of Pack the Pantry event (wsaw.com) — Stevens Point and Plover residents are being challenged to a friendly rivalry to see which community can donate the most non-perishable food in this year’s Pack the Pantry drive. Starting today, you can buy Sack Hunger bags or give cash at Metro Market locations in both communities, all leading up to the June 19 event aimed at topping last year’s 12,000-pound total.

5. Naked man stole ambulance with patient inside (waupacanow.com) — A man whose last listed address is in Stevens Point has pleaded not guilty to ten charges after allegedly stealing an occupied ambulance in Wisconsin Rapids and leading officers on a lengthy chase in February. Court records describe a bizarre incident ending safely in a field near Pittsville, and the case is now moving toward a July pre-trial hearing in Wood County.
