• 75-year-old struck in Sturgeon Bay crosswalk dies at hospital (wtaq.com) — A 75-year-old woman struck while using the crosswalk at 3rd Avenue and Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay has died after being transferred to a Green Bay hospital. Police say the driver, a 73-year-old Sturgeon Bay resident, was watching another group of pedestrians and didn’t see the victim, and has now been cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
   

• Sturgeon Bay neighbors concerned of "compounding effects" for schools as the city continues to grow (nbc26.com subscription) — Neighbors packed Sturgeon Bay City Hall as the Common Council approved changes to four tax increment financing districts that will support new housing, retail, and industrial growth. Some residents worry these long-term TID arrangements will limit tax revenue for the Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door school districts, while the mayor argues TIDs are vital to growing the tax base ahead of an August 13 joint review board meeting.
   

• Door County EMS reports spike in water rescues over four days (wbay.com) — A recent spike in water rescues around Door County, reported from Sturgeon Bay, has local officials urging anyone on the lake to wear life jackets and check conditions before heading out. After multiple rescues and two kayaker deaths near Washington Island, emergency management and the sheriff’s office are stressing designated swim areas, sober boating, and closer supervision of children in the water.
