WAUKESHA, WI —Waukesha fire department first responders worked feverishly Sunday evening, helping to extricate all living occupants from a house fire on the 300 block of N. Greenfield Ave.

According to fire department reports, a house fire was reported just before 6 p.m. at 319 N. Greenfield Ave.

When they arrived at the two-story single-family home, first responders took stock of the situation: the house had flames inside and out, the house's lone human occupant was able to exit the house, but several pets were still inside.

As firefighters battled the blaze, they extinguished flames on the outisde of the house, the nearby car that caught fire and then advanced to an enclosed porch and kitchen that had caught fire.

As the fire was brought under control, firefighters worked the fire back to its source in the house's attic.

Damage from the fire was estimated to be $200,000, which includes the home, its contents and three vehicles.

The human occupant of the home received medical attention at the scene, and fire officials say they had alternate housing with relatives.

The cause of the fire was under investigation at the time of this report.
