3 School Threats Reported On National Walkout Day

One high school was shut down, the other was put on lockdown, and a third had its student walkout canceled after three threats were reported

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — On the same day as the National School Walkouts to protest gun violence while honoring the 17 people who died in Parkland, Florida during last month's school shooting, three threats were reported at area high schools. According to reports, one threat shut down a high school, a second forced a lockdown, while the third forced the cancellation of the school's planned student walkout.

Pewaukee High School

Classes at Pewaukee High School were canceled Wednesday after Waukesha County Sheriff’s officials say they received a report of threats to Pewaukee High School that were received through a social media post just before 10 p.m. Tuesday. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office immediately made contact with the Village of Pewaukee Police Department as well as Pewaukee School Officials. Together, law enforcement and school officials worked throughout the evening to identify a suspect in this incident.

Officials say the suspect is a Pewaukee High School Student who was subsequently taken into custody early Wednesday morning by Waukesha Sheriff’s Investigators. The investigation has not revealed any evidence of any other people involved. Sheriff's officials reported that they did not believe any threat to the public exists.

Officials say school will resume as normal on Thursday morning. As a precautionary measure, there will be an more officers in the halls when classes resume to demonstrate the school's commitment to safety and to ease the concerns of the parents, students and staff, officials said.

Milwaukee Pulaski High School

Police arrested one man after a report of a man with a gun at Milwaukee Pulaski High School Wednesday morning. According to police reports, officers responded to the school just after 8 a.m. Although one person was arrested in connection with the incident, police say that no weapons were found on them.

As the incident unfolded, Pulaski went into a lockdown around 8:20 a.m. A number of students were allowed back into the school about two hours later, though parents and other community members were not allowed back in at that time due to the investigation.

"We are cooperating with Milwaukee police as we investigate a potential situation at Pulaski. Students are staying in their classrooms at this time as a precautionary measure. No one has been injured. Everyone is safe. We will update you if there is any further information," the district said in a prepared statement late Wednesday morning.

Mukwonago High School

Officials at Mukwonago High School say they "don't want to take any chances" in Waukesha County, and will not have students participate in Wednesday's National School Walkout after an apparent threat was reported.

Police said that they conducted an investigation into the apparent threat late Tuesday evening, and learned ultimately that the threat was "not credible."

District officials sent out a notice to parents regarding the incident.

"Due to recent events and concern about student safety in the area and across the country, we are going to cancel student participation in today's walkout. Principal Jim Darin will work with student leaders to discuss alternative activities to honor victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy at later date."
