WAUKESHA, WI -- A list from an official association in the haunt industry has named 31 top haunted attractions in the country, and a Waukesha attraction has made the list.

Americans love to be scared and Halloween thrillseekers are in luck. A haunted site in Waukesha has been named a certified “top haunted attraction,” a designation that isn’t that easy to get.

The fright seal of approval comes from The Haunted Attraction Association, which says it is the only official association in the haunt industry. The HAA has certified 31 haunts across the country as official “top haunted attractions.”

Wisconsin's top haunted attraction is located in Waukesha with the Wisconsin Fear Grounds' “Night Terrors: 13 Hours of FEAR!” The immersive experience provides tents for fear seekers to sleep in with the nights’ activities will include a fright trail through the woods, a scavenger hunt, bonfire ghost stories and scary movies played on a large inflatable screen.

A haunted attraction can make it onto the top haunted attractions list only if it is a member of HAA and meets a list of 10 criteria, the organization says, noting the safety of the guests is its No. 1 priority.
