88-year-old WWII Veteran gets diploma from Waukesha South H.S.

WWII may have prevented man from receiving diploma, but he proves it's never too late to try.

WAUKESHA — Waukesha South High School is adding one unique member to their class of 2016.

According to an article reported by CBS 58, 88-year-old Alvin Kind finally received his diploma during a special ceremony just for he and his family and loved ones.

60 years ago, Kind was one credit short of graduating, lacking only an English credit. He was drafted just after his 18th birthday, and moved on to start a family after completing his service time.

Alvin Kind's son Allen told CBS 58 that his family learned there was federal legislation that allowed veterans to receive their diplomas if they were drafted before graduation.

Waukesha School District Superintendent Todd Gray and others came to Alvin's Waukesha home for a one-person graduation ceremony last week.
