Police later located the woman and said she was homeless seeking warmth, directing her to resources, while neighbors plan lock changes and added security and residents double-check doors.

Runner who died during half marathon was from Waukesha (gmtoday.com) β A 36-year-old Waukesha man, John Meise, collapsed during a Milwaukee half marathon Sunday and later died at Froedtert Hospital, with the cause of death still under review. His family is being supported through a GoFundMe that has already raised more than $90,000, as organizers and the race community share condolences and emphasize established safety protocols.

Waukesha Rotary Club to host annual Bourbon Dinner (gmtoday.com) β Waukesha residents can support local nonprofits at the Rotary Club's second annual Bourbon Dinner fundraiser on Oct. 15, held at Interstate Music in Menomonee Falls. Last year's event generated over $36,000 for 18 area charities, and this year's evening includes high-end bourbon raffles and Green Bay Packers tickets, with tickets and donations available through online registration.

Wisconsin Confirms EHD in Cattle Amid Deer Outbreak (dairyherd.com) β Cattle in Waukesha County have tested positive for epizootic hemorrhagic disease, the first confirmed cattle cases in Wisconsin since 2013 and part of a wider deer outbreak that includes hundreds of suspected local deer deaths. State veterinarians stress the virus doesn't infect people but urge herd owners to work closely with their vets on insect control and monitoring unusual lesions.

Menomonee Falls gas station shootout, man sentenced to prison (fox6now.com) β Waukesha County prosecutors secured a prison sentence for 18-year-old Rodrick Stewart after a shootout at a Menomonee Falls gas station left bystanders scrambling for cover. Stewart pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and received seven-and-a-half years in prison plus five years of supervision, while related charges against his brother were dismissed without prejudice.
