Obit: Paul “Ben” Abplanalp

Paul “Ben” Abplanalp, of Waukesha died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.  He was born in Waukesha on November 27, 1928, the son of Paul and Josephine  (nee Kowalski) Abplanalp, Sr.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 until 1947 aboard the USS Herbert J. Thomas.  On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Jean Emley.  Ben worked for International Harvester for many years working in Milwaukee, Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, IN and then in Waukesha retiring in 1985.  He was an honorable Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Tin Can Sailors. 

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Jean of Waukesha, his children: Sue (Steve) Sheridan of Fort Worth, TX, Linda (Timothy) Engels of Bradley, IL, and David (Sherry) Abplanalp of Waukesha, his daughter-in-law Sandra Abplanalp of Reddington Shores, FL, eight grandchildren: Andrew (Kris) Abplanalp of Waukesha, Matthew Abplanalp of Madison, Carolee Beaster of Hartland, Amy (Leon) Hernandez of Waukesha, Erin Engels (Jacob Borgerson) of Houston, TX, Joseph Engels of Chicago, Lauren Abplanalp of Waukesha and Jaclyn Abplanalp of Waukesha, and six great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters:  Barbara Thompson of Waukesha, William (Peggy) Abplanalp of Waukesha, Sally (Dennis) Feryan of Oshkosh and Richard (Barbara) Abplanalp of Waukesha along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his son Donald in 2005, sister Nancy, and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S.
