Authorities Investigating Fire Behind El Palmar Restaurant

WAUKESHA, WI — Police and fire officials in Waukesha say they're investigating the cause of a fire that was reported in a vacant building located a couple doors down from the El Palmar restaurant.

At just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities received a call for a report of a building on fire behind the El Palmar Restaurant, in the area of Martin and Main Street in Waukesha.

Fire officials in Waukesha said the downtown Fire Station had the first units to arrive on scene; arriving in less than four minutes from the first calls reporting the fire.

Once crews arrived on scene they were able to determine the fire had occurred at 854 Martin St. The two-story vacant bar had heavy smoke and flames visible from the exterior.

Fire Department personnel located the fire in the second-floor rear of the vacant building. Fire crews performed a primary search of the building to ensure that there was no one in the building while at the same time, another fire crew went to the area of the fire origin and extinguished the fire.

A damage estimate is not available but is limited to the room of origin. There was no injuries. The City of Waukesha Fire Department received mutual aid from the City of Pewaukee, and the Town of Waukesha Fire Departments.

If anyone, has information about the fire they are asked to contact the Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau at 262-524-3648. This building was the site of a March 25, 2017 fire and has been sitting vacant since that fire.
