Waukesha & Hartland Homes To Be Part of Milwaukee/NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes

Two of the 14 recently remodeled homes on the Milwaukee/NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes (May 18-19) are in Waukesha and Hartland.

Waukesha and Hartland residents will have an opportunity to “Explore Remodeling’s Finest” at the 14th annual Milwaukee/NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes, Sat., May 18 – Sun., May 19, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily.

The Tour of Remodeled Homes is produced by the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council, Inc., and sponsored by Kohler Co. in conjunction with First Supply, and by VerHalen, The Pella Window Store. The event will allow attendees to view 14 recently completed remodeling and home improvement projects from Milwaukee/NARI contractors at homes throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

The Tour of Remodeled Homes will feature the following renovation projects in Waukesha and Hartland:

Kowalske Kitchen & Bath: Kitchen Remodel • 1248 Highpoint Lane, Waukesha
The intent of this design was to update the kitchen, add storage space, and create a more cohesive use of space. Gutting the kitchen from top to bottom included eliminating the space-wasting soffits, allowing for new cabinet installation that extended to the ceiling. The existing space was maximized with organizers, which also increased the kitchen’s efficiency. Added storage options included a pull out spice rack, pull out shelves, and Lazy Susan’s in both lower corners and one upper corner, making objects in cabinets more accessible. Appliances were moved to more suitable locations, creating better traffic flow within the limited area.

Bartelt. The Remodeling Resource: First Floor Remodel • N63 W29790 Woodfield Court, Hartland
The homeowners desired a layout conducive to entertaining, while introducing a rustic aesthetic to complement their heavily wooded lot.  The entire first floor was remodeled, with walls removed and details incorporated throughout the home to create a cohesive design.  The kitchen now features glazed birch cabinetry, ample storage, granite countertops with a leather texture, a slate backsplash, hand-scraped hickory floors, and a custom wrought iron chandelier. The island is a focal point with a butcher block, olive, crackle-finish base, and round walnut table.  The family room originally had a fieldstone fireplace and cedar beams on the ceiling. The mason applied a heavy coat of mortar to the fireplace, a technique reminiscent of old farmhouse walls, and the cedar beams were replaced with hand-scraped beams. The space also includes a wet bar with custom cabinetry.  The remodeled powder room features a custom vanity, countertop, and vessel sink, with the wall mount faucet set into mosaic tiles, and the room’s large slate tile floor matches the flooring used in the back hall and laundry room.

An added attraction for the 2013 Tour of Remodeled Homes is an opportunity to win a house full of faucets from the Kohler Co., which will include a new bathroom and kitchen faucets valued at more than $1,000. Patrons that visit at least six of the project locations will be eligible to register to win the prize package.

Tour of Remodeled Homes admission is $4 in advance, and $7 at the door of the projects. Starting Wed., May 1, through Fri., May 17, advance tickets can be purchased between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council office, 11815 W. Dearbourn Ave. in Wauwatosa.

Attendees that bring two, non-perishable food items to the door of the first project they visit will receive a $2 admission discount, with the food items to be donated to The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County.
