Burglary Scare On Maria St.: Police

Police blocked off St. Paul and Maria and set up a perimeter around the house as they investigated the burglary call.

WAUKESHA, WI — Residents on the 200 block of Maria St. got a burglary scare late Friday afternoon after someone spotted a woman break a home window with a shovel in order to gain entry.

Waukesha police were dispatched to the 200 block of Maria St. just before 4:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a burglary in progress. According to reports, a witness reported seeing a person using a shovel to bust a window before climbing into a front window.

Police blocked off St. Paul and Maria and set up a perimeter around the house as they investigated the emergency call.

As police made attempts to make contact with the property owner, they managed to reach a relative, who stated that one of the homeowner's sisters broke the window to get in, reports stated.

According to police reports, the woman eventually came out of the house once officers were able to make contact with her via family members. She explained to police that she had just moved into the residence with her sister about two weeks ago, but does not yet have a key.

According to police reports, she told officers that she broke the window to get in when she came home and found that the doors were locked. She agreed to pay for the cost of a new window. No criminal complaint was wished, and police lifted their perimeter.
