Cable Guy Locked in Waukesha Bedroom After Residents Though He Was Scam Artist

Police say the cable guy was a verified contractor simply filling a work order to change out necessary equipment at the residence.

WAUKESHA -- Police say a contract worker from ATT and Direct TV was physically forced against a wall and locked in an apartment bedroom after the residents thought he was a scam artist.

Police responded to the 300 block of Wabash Ave. just after 6 p.m. Thursday after a female caller told police "get somebody over here now," before hanging up and refusing to answer questions on the line.

When police arrived on-scene they learned that the contractor was a verified contractor through AT&T, and had made a service call to the home on Wabash Ave. to change out equipment that was needed after Direct TV and AT&T merged.

According to the report, the residents on Wabash Ave. were very concerned because they had both been laid off work recently and were concerned about possible foreclosure of the residence.

Thinking the AT&T contractor had been a scam artist, the couple prevented the man from leaving the residence by forcing him up against a wall, and then locking him in a bedroom there.
