Carroll continues partnership with Waukesha Reads

From Sept. 27 to Nov. 3, 2013, Waukesha Reads and The Big Read present activities that explore the themes of “Into the Beautiful North” by Luis Alberto Urrea. Carroll University again partners with the annual event.

“Memory: Soul of a People,” a photography exhibition, will be displayed at Waukesha Public Library, 321 Wisconsin Ave., from Oct. 1-31. These photographs of Waukesha’s Hispanic community celebrate their traditions, values and humanity. The art exhibit is a joint venture of the Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition class taught by Dr. Elena De Costa, and Philip Krejcarek’s photography students. For more information, call the library at 262.524.3682.

On Sunday, Oct. 20, a showing of “Seven Samurai” will be from noon-4 p.m. in the Dorothy Goff Frisch Recital Hall of Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave. This award-winning 1954 film tells the story of a group of samurai that protect a village being attacked by bandits, with subtitles. The movie is three-and-a-half-hours long and there will be an intermission. For more information, call Brittany Larson, Carroll’s access services librarian, at 262.650.4887.
