Crisis Workers Peacefully Resolved Sendik's Standoff: Report
When a man threatened self-harm with knives in the Waukesha Sendik's parking lot, crisis negotiators helped resolve the situation peacefully

WAUKESHA, WI -- A standoff between local police and a man threatening self-harm with knives was resolved peacefully Thursday after crisis workers were called to the Sendik's parking lot.
Waukesha police responded to the parking lot of Sendik's just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 13 on a report of a 29-year-old man who was under the influence of narcotics and was threatening self-harm.
According to police reports, the man was driven to the Sendik's parking lot by his father, who then called police and fled the area with his son inside the car.

Police told Patch that the man refused to exit his vehicle for several hours, and threatened to harm himself with several large knives he had in the vehicle.
Police said crisis negotiators were called to the scene to assist, and within 45 minutes convinced him to exit the car without the knives. He was taken into custody and transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was taken into protective custody with mental health issues.
