Customer Tried Putting Out Waukesha McDonald's Fire: Report

Police said that the customer did not realize that he was using the wrong fire extinguisher for a grease fire.

WAUKESHA, WI -- A customer at a Waukesha McDonald's attempted to help put out a fire Friday afternoon, though police say the customer used the wrong fire extinguisher, resulting in more problems.

According to police reports, police responded to the McDonald's on the 1600 block of E. Main St. just before 1 p.m. Friday on a report of a grease fire.

Police told Patch that a quick-thinking customer used a nearby fire extinguisher to attempt to put out the fire, but only managed to make the fire worse by using the wrong fire extinguisher.

Police said that the customer did not realize that he was using the wrong fire extinguisher for a grease fire which resulted in complicating the situation by blowing hot oil up toward the ceiling, and activating the restaurant's sprinkler system.

The fire has been ruled accidental by authorities.
