Waukesha police safely recovered a distressed woman after she threatened to shoot herself in the head with a firearm.

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha police safely recovered a distressed woman after she threatened to shoot herself in the head with a firearm.

Waukesha police responded to an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Fleetfoot Drive jus after 10:30 p.m. Friday.

According to police reports, a woman who was recently arrested by Muskego police for identity theft was having suicidal ideations. According to the woman's mother, the daughter "put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger and nothing happened, she's still trying to figure this gun out."

Police reports indicated that the woman had threatened self-harm in the past and has a medical history of bipolar and depression.

According to police reports, multiple squads responded to the scene and set up a perimeter outside the apartment building.

Authorities learned that her boyfriend had a firearm in the residence, but typically stored the ammunition clip in a different location.

After 20-30 minutes, officers attempted to make contact with the woman, and the woman came out several minutes later.

The gun was secured prior to the woman coming out. The woman was transported to the Waukesha memorial hospital.
