Driver Led Waukesha Police On 11-Mile Chase: Report
Police said the incident began when an officer on patrol tried stopping a motorist over a routine traffic violation.

WAUKESHA, WI — A Waukesha man has been arrested and is awaiting charges after police say he led officers on an 11-mile chase through the area after an officer initially tried pulling him over for a routine traffic stop.
Waukesha police told Patch that an officer on patrol attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on the vehicle for multiple equipment violations at just before 11:30 p.m. on July 16.
Police said that during the course of the traffic stop, the driver decided to pulling away, eventually leading officers on the chase and reaching speeds up to 90 miles per hour.

Officers pursued the vehicle which ended up leaving the city. The pursuit continued on Highway F to Capitol Drive, and then east on Capitol. Police said tire-deflating stop sticks were set out on the road ahead of the driver, and were successful at disabling the vehicle when he drove over them.
According to Waukesha police, the driver was uncooperative with police, and tried barricading himself in his vehicle, but was eventually taken into custody without further incident. He was taken into custody and transported to the Waukesha County Jail, and is awaiting formal charges, police said.
