A computer error in Milwaukee led Waukesha police to implicate the driver of a vehicle that was still registered as stolen.

WAUKESHA, WI — A computer error in Milwaukee led Waukesha police to implicate the driver of a vehicle that was still registered as stolen.
According to Waukesha police, officers conducted a traffic stop on the 2400 block of N. Grandview Blvd. just before 10 a.m. on Nov. 29 on a report of a stolen car that was seen in the Chase Bank parking lot.
Waukesha police told Patch.com that officers conducted a High-Risk Traffic Stop on a the vehicle because it was listed as stolen out of Milwaukee.

When police approached the car and spoke with its two occupants, they found the registered owner behind the wheel.
Police told Patch that the driver's vehicle was previously reported stolen, and then recovered, and that it should have been taken off the system as stolen by the Milwaukee Police Department. Police said it was never removed from the National Crime Information Center by police in Milwaukee.

Police told Patch that the Waukesha police officer on-scene apologized to the driver and passenger, and sent them on their way.
