Poetry Slam Beginner Workshops

The Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) offers these workshops in the art of poetry slam.  Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry.  It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus not only on what they are saying, but how they are saying it.  Performance pieces can be gut-busting fun or gut-wrenching drama.  Part of the appeal is not knowing what is going to happen next, but going along for the ride anyway.  See also the Civic Slam listing for April 5, as the culmination of the workshops for the participants.  For ages 13-21.
