WAUKESHA, WI -- Police in Waukesha say they lectured a 5-year-old girl after the girl called 911 over a scooter that was taken from her - and later returned without an apology.

According to Waukesha police reports, the 5-year-old girl called 911 during the afternoon of May 6, telling dispatchers that someone took her scooter, later returned the bike, but that the person who stole it didn't say "sorry" when it was returned.

Reports stated that when the dispatcher asked the youngster who was supposed to be home, the child answered that people were in fact home, but were asleep.

When police investigated, they learned that the girl was upset because a friend did not say they were sorry for taking her cousin's scooter, which was ultimately returned. Police determined that the girl's aunt was home the whole time and that her parents were next door.
