Gun Scare Outside Waukesha Human Services Building
The County building was put on lockdown as the man was arrested and a grenade in his car was found to be inert.
WAUKESHA, WI — Authorities in Waukesha say a report of a man with a gun outside a county building Tuesday afternoon caused a scare. Officials also said that the man was taken into custody, but that it didn't appear he was intending to commit an act of violence at the scene.
On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 11:41 a.m. the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office responded
to the Waukesha County Health and Human Services Center at 514 Riverview Ave. on a report of a man with a gun who was outside the facility.
Waukesha County Sheriff's officials said that the witness reported via 911 that they saw a man loading a handgun in a vehicle parked in the visitor parking lot. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the parking lot within minutes and located the man near his vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident
shortly after being located.

During the initial response, the Waukesha County Health and Human Services Center was placed on a lock down for the safety of staff and visitors with in the building. The staff and clients responded to the lock down and followed all protocols until the situation was deemed safe outside at 1:55 p.m.
Sheriff's officials said that during their investigation, a hand grenade was located in the truck of the vehicle. As a precautionary measure, the Milwaukee County Sheriff Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was requested and determined the grenade inert, and disposed of the grenade.

Sheriff's officials say that there is no information to lead investigators to believe that the man was
intending to commit an act of violence at the Health and Human Services Center.
The incident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office and additional information will be released should it become available.
