Here's The Accident That Shut Down I-43 On Friday

At about 1 p.m. Friday, a dump truck, driven by a man was traveling north on I-43 with the dump box in an elevated position.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — You may have already heard about the flaming bottled water truck that shut down Friday morning traffic on I-94 in Milwaukee, but another accident on I-43 caused major backups on I-43 Friday afternoon in Waukesha County.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, a dump truck was traveling north on I-43 with the dump box in an elevated position. According to Waukesha County Sheriff's officials, the box struck the Racine Ave. overpass. The box detached from the truck, and became lodged under the Racine Ave Bridge. The truck then rolled and came to rest in the south lanes of I-43.

The north lanes of I-43 were shut down for about two hours, and south lanes of I-43 were reduced down to one lane. Racine Ave. was closed over I-43 for about 90 minutes until sheriff's officials could determine whether the bridge was safe.
