Joy Global to Cut 130 Jobs

Move comes as company shuts down heavy welding and fabrication operations in Milwaukee.

MILWAUKEE β€” Joy Global Inc. says it expects to cut about 130 jobs after announcing that the company is shutting down its heavy welding and fabrication operations in Milwaukee.

The Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday that the mining equipment manufacturer announced the decision to employees Wednesday in conjunction with the mailing of an official notice.

In September 2015, the Journal Sentinel reported that Joy Global Inc. announced it would lay off 113 more employees at the company's mining equipment plant on W. National Ave., adding to the hundreds of people already on layoff at Joy and its primary competitor, Caterpillar Inc.

Most of the employees affected by the shutdown were already on layoff, according to Joy Global, which has its main plant on National Avenue.
