Man Arrested In Waukesha After 4-Hour Standoff

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha police had to use a stun gun and a K-9 to subdue a man after a four-hour standoff in the south side of the city Monday evening, police announced.

Police haven't named the man because he hasn't been charged.

Police received a call that the man with a felony probation warrant was inside a house in the 1500 block of Big Bend Road around 2:05 p.m., the Waukesha Police Department said in a statement.

The man was a sex offender, and a warrant was issued for his arrest for violating probation, police said. He was living in a condominium with a woman and her kids near East Garfield Avenue and South East Avenue, police said.

Officers evacuated the children and a dog from the house, but the man refused to leave and said he wouldn't go back to jail "without a fight," police said.

Police brought in a K-9 unit, had a negotiator call the man and shot pepper balls into a window in attempts to get him to surrender and go outside, police logs showed. Officers went inside the house and used a stun gun on the man when he resisted arrest around 6:35 p.m., police said.

The man was strapped to a backboard and gurney and taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure, police said. No officers were hurt during the arrest.
