Man Could Get 90 Days In Jail For Pointing Laser At Police: Cops

Police in Waukesha say an officer on patrol feared for his safety when a red laser dot appeared on the windshield of his squad car.

WAUKESHA, WI -- A 21-year-old Waukesha man is being held in jail and may face criminal charges after he got the attention of a Waukesha police officer in a potentially dangerous way.

According to Waukesha police reports, an officer on patrol in his squad car during the early morning hours of Dec. 2 when he saw a red laser dot appear on the windshield of his squad car.

Police said the officer feared for his safety, over the concern that the red laser dot was attached to a weapon pointed at him from a distance.

According to police, the officer requested assistance. Officers responded to the area and located the person who pointed the red laser pointer at the officer in a nearby apartment.

Police said the person who pointed the laser pointer at the officer was arrested on suspicion of intentionally pointing a laser at an officer.

According to state law, pointing a laser pointer at any part of a law enforcement officer can result in a misdemeanor charge and up to 90 days in jail.
