Man Secured After Waukesha Emergency Room Scare: Report
Waukesha police said a man had to be tased after he threatened self-harm at the Waukesha Memorial Hospital emergency room.

WAUKESHA, WI — Authorities in Waukesha say they took an 18-year-old Waukesha man into custody for his own safety after the man threatened self-harm with a knife while at an emergency room.
According to Waukesha police, the man arrived at the emergency room entrance at the ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital on a potential overdose at just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 11.
Police say the man contemplated self-harm in the presence of emergency room staff, putting the blade of a small folding knife to his neck and wrist.

Waukesha police say they were able to buy time by talking with the man until additional officers arrived at the scene.
According to police, the man refused to put the knife down. Police reported firing several "less-lethal" beanbag rounds at him, and later deploying a Taser on him before he dropped the knife.

He was then taken into custody for emergency detention, police said.
