Man Who Fled Waukesha Police Caught In West Allis: Report

Police say they first tried pulling the man over because of a suspended license.

WAUKESHA, WI -- A 45-year-old Waukesha man has been arrested and faces a flurry of charges after police say he led officers on a 7-mile chase that began in Waukesha and ended up in West Allis.

Authorities say Jose A. Monreal, Jr., 45, Waukesha, has been charged with bail jumping, fleeing an officer, obstructing an officer and also faces numerous traffic offenses as a result of the Jan. 21 incident.

According to Waukesha police reports, an officer attempted to pull Monreal over just after 2:30 a.m. in the area of the Waukesha Walmart on S. West Ave. for a suspended license.

Police told Waukesha Patch that the officer following Monreal's vehicle turned on his emergency lights in an attempt to have Monreal pull over, but that Monreal kept on driving.

Reports indicated that both Waukesha Police and later the Waukesha County Sheriff's office were ordered to break off the high-speed pursuit as Monreal fled east.

Police said officers in West Allis picked up the chase and were forced to conduct a PIT maneuver - a pursuit tactic by which a pursuing officer can force a fleeing car to turn sideways quickly, forcing the driver to lose control of their vehicle and stop.

Police said Monreal was taken into custody and transported to the Waukesha Police Department. He has been charged and has multiple court cases that are pending in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
