Danny Steven Swinney of Midland, Michigan, formerly Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 10, 2011, surrounded by those he loved. He was 61.
Dan was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Sheffield, Alabama. Eventually settling in Michigan, Dan graduated from Midland High in 1967, joining the Air Force shortly thereafter. Dan married his high school sweetheart, Brooke Benson, Oct. 19, 1968, at Blessed Sacrament in Midland. The two lived and traveled across the U.S. before he deployed for duty in Vietnam.
Upon completing his service for the military, Dan graduated from Ferris State University with a degree in accounting in 1975. Dan and Brooke moved to Wisconsin in 1976, staying 23 years and raising four children together at their home in Waukesha. Owning his own accounting business, then selling real estate through Shorewest Realtors were both careers in which Dan's independent spirit could thrive.

Being the best husband and father ever were only some of the qualities that made Dan a great man. Besides his good humor and quick laugh, Dan will be remembered for his love of golf, playing the Swinney Open every April 16 to celebrate the end of tax season. Also an essential member of the W.H.A.L.r's organization, Dan was well loved and admired by many for his ability to seemingly always be in a good mood. The type of good mood that people find contagious, where no matter the situation, his kind face could be found with a smile looking back at you.
Dan is survived by his wife, Brooke, children Colin, Katie, Stephanie, Amy (Don) Ginsch, and granddaughter, Sydney. His greatest gifts still live on through each of them, and in turn, so will he.
