Obit: Donna Mae Schmitz (nee Pomeranski)

Donna Mae Schmitz (Pomeranski), of New Berlin, died on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc at the age of 75.

She was born in Superior on Feb, 20, 1936. She married Cyril W. Schmitz of Menomonee Falls on Oct. 29, 1955. They resided in Waukesha where she made wedding cakes and special occasion cakes and was referred by many as the “Cake Lady”.  She also enjoyed painting ceramics.  Together with her husband they raised 10 children.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Joseph (Cheryl) Schmitz, Mary Schmitz, Susan (Mark) Smokowicz, Nancy (Jerry) Hanson, Anita Pirc, Jean (Dan) Schulthess, John Schmitz, Micheal Schmitz, Paul (Nicole) Schmitz and Steven Schmitz.  She was the fond grandmother of 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and one expected in January.  She was the beloved sister to Connie (Fran) Rheinhart; Bonnie (Bob) Bacholls and sister–in-law to Muriel Larson.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril, her parents Edward and Sylvia Pomeranski, and her brother Ronnie. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at , 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI.

Services continue on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, with prayers at the funeral home beginning at 10:15 a.m. followed by a procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave. Waukesha, WI 53186 for the 11 a.m. funeral Mass.  Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
