Obituary: Herbert M. “Herbie” Smith, Sr.

Waukesha man dies at age 78.

Herbert M. “Herbie” Smith, Sr. of Waukesha, joined his wife Beatrice (nee Stapleton) and his son Joseph P. in heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the age of 78.  He was born on Dec. 26, 1933, the son of Amo and Lottie (nee Grant) Smith. Herbie enjoyed long rides (known as his rodeos), where he enjoyed looking for asparagus, counting the number of deer he saw and his nightly ride around Pewaukee Lake. He had years of loving and caring for his dog Goofy.  They were inseparable until Goofy’s death.  He loved sitting in his yard during the summer and the enjoyment of the lawn ornaments he collected.  He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons: Robert J. (Ginny) Smith, Herbert M. (Arlene) Smith, Jr. and Robert C. Fell, his daughters: Patricia A. Smith, Karen J. Smith, Kay L. (Jimmy) Pieper and Lottie R. (Jeff) Smith.  He is further survived by his brother Gordon (Margaret) Smith, Sr., 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to his wife Beatrice and son Joseph, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Raymond and Roy and his granddaughter Jessica M. Wegner.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha.  A second visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. followed by a procession to Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee for burial.
