Obituary: Melba L. Zimmermann (nee Lapp)

Waukesha woman owned Porky's Tap for 20 years.

Melba L. Zimmermann (nee Lapp), longtime Waukesha resident died on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at LifeCare Hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 83. 

She was born on July 13, 1928, in Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Effie (nee Ferree) Lapp.  Melba was the loving and devoted wife of 54 years to Lloyd “Porky” providing gentle care during his final years.  Melba and Porky owned and operated Porky’s Tap in Waukesha for 20 years.  She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.  She will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She was the loving mother to her daughter Lori Grap of Waukesha and her son Steven Zimmermann of Waukesha, amazing grandmother to Scot A. Grap of West Allis and Juli R. Grap of New Berlin and her great-granddaughter Ashlynn Rose Lab, devoted sister to Robert (Donna) Lapp of Florida, Myrna (John) Delsman of Arizona, Eugene (Kitty Lou) Lapp of Florida, Alfred “Jim” Lapp of Delavan and Dennis (Rita) Lapp of Phillips.  She is further survived by her son-in-law Rick Grap and her best friend Joanne “Joanie” Oknewski of Brookfield, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd “Porky” and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.  Graveside services will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
