NO
"Absolutely not. The policy is there for a reason."
"Rules are rules"
"No. There are other police departments he could work in."
"Honestly, I don't know why we have rules if they aren't enforced. My question would be why this alderman finds this case to be "exceptional.""
"There is a city policy that is in place so this would mean the answer is clearly
"NO! Sorry the policy was created for a reason years ago so why change it?"
"No....and neither of them should want to change the policy."
"Nope. One exception will lead to another, and another......."
YES, WITH CONDITIONS
"Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, my dad and his 2 brothers were all well-respected deputies on the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department at the same time. If the Chief's son is qualified in all other respects, the "policy" ought to be changed. IMHO."
"Didnt Mark Stigler work on the PD "under" his father, then-Chief Tom Stigler? NOT as direct subordinate, but as any other officer of the time?"
"Much ado about nothing, I do agree."
" If he has the qualifications then yes and there exceptions to most comp. you can't work the same shift and can't be on any actions of his work. so if it is a vag policy then it should be made more clear as to can and can not's"
"If he's qualified, sure. Make sure the Chief is not involved in any of his disciplinary actions."
"Maybe the policy needs to be changed."
"I think if there's a panel of other people interviewing him, not just his father, and he seems like a good match for the department then why deny a potential great cop? And if someone else is his direct supervisor then it shouldn't matter. If the apple doesn't fall far from the tree then I think he could be a fantastic addition to an already solid police force. I say make him jump through the same hoops as any other potential officer and if he comes out ahead of the other candidates.. then welcome to the force!"
