Phony License Plate Driver Eludes Waukesha Police

Police said the driver's license plate did not match the vehicle, and that the letters were "too large."

WAUKESHA, WI — The driver of a possible stolen vehicle managed to elude authorities Wednesday night after Waukesha police saw that the vehicle had plates that did not match.

Waukesha police told Patch.com that an officer on patrol Wednesday night in the area of St. Paul and North St. saw a silver Chevy Trailblazer bearing a license plate that did not match the vehicle's registration. In addition, reports indicated that the license plate letters were "too large."

The Officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the suspect's vehicle fled from the officer at a high rate of speed, blowing stop signs and driving against traffic at times. When police terminate vehicle pursuits, it is often out of safety concerns for other motorists or pedestrians in the area.

Police told Patch that the officer pursued the vehicle a short distance before terminating the pursuit. The suspect's vehicle was able to elude police. The investigation is ongoing.
