Phony Water Utility Workers Targeting Waukesha Homes: Police

Phony Waukesha Water Utility workers have been going door-to-door in the city. They've managed to burglarize one home already.

WAUKESHA, WI — Police in Waukesha are investigating three separate police calls in which they say two suspicious men are posing as Waukesha Water Utility workers. In each of the cases, police say they are requesting permission to enter a person's home to inspect the water pipes in the basement.

Police are reporting that the two men posing as Waukesha Water Utility workers are not employees of the Waukesha Water Utility. The three complaints were reported to have occurred on Sunday, Jan. 28 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the northwest part of Waukesha.

Police say that during the first two incidents, the men were denied entry into the homes they approached, however during the third incident, the suspects were allowed in and several items were stolen from the home.

This person sometimes acts as a distraction. Once inside the home, the person will look to steal items of value while the other person will wait
outside, in a vehicle acting as a lookout or come into the home to steal items.
