Pilot Walks Away from Crites Field Airplane Crash

Icy conditions unthinkable only a few days ago were reportedly to blame for an airplane crash at Crites Field on Friday.

WAUKESHA, WI — Icy weather conditions unthinkable only a few days ago are to blame for a plane crash at Crites Field on Friday night involving a plane occupied by a lone female pilot.

On Friday, February 24, 2017, at approximately 6:48 p.m., the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office along with the City of Waukesha Fire Department responded to a plane that slid off the runway at Crites Field.

Upon arrival, Deputies observed a 1979 Cessna 340 Twin Prop plane with substantial damage on the left side. The pilot, a 55–year-old woman from Sun Prairie, who was the sole occupant in the plane, was able to walk away from the accident with no injuries.

It is believed the accident occurred as a result of the icy weather conditions. The FAA has been notified. This incident remains under investigation by the FAA and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.
